The John Boyd Roundtable
Nimble Books has just released The John Boyd Roundtable: Debating Science, Strategy and War.
Developed from a series of blog posts on zenpundit.com back in the Spring, Roundtable develops ideas from Frans Osinga’s Science, Strategy and War: The Strategic Theory of John Boyd. It can be thought of as a companion to, or better, an incentive to read, that book. [The link points to the hardback edition at Amazon.com, but Col Osinga’s book is also available at a much lower price in paperback from the publisher.]
I was honored to be asked to contribute a chapter, after petulantly declining to participate in the original blog discussion (don’t ask), and I was joined by eight other authors who explored various aspects of Col Osinga’s book and Boyd’s theories. Tom Barnett, whose new book Great Powers: America and the World After Bush, will be published in February, contributed the forward. Many thanks to the editor, Mark Safranski, for the idea and for shepherding the project through to completion.
Whether you’re new to OODA loops and Fingerspitzengefühl, a hard core strategist, or just interested in a brisk compendium of ideas, I think you’ll enjoy The John Boyd Roundtable.
[Apologies to readers if the books links don’t work. WordPress is deleting out some Amazon links.]
